VTTA Championship 12 Hour Result

The CTT/VTTA championships returned to South Wales Raglan circuit 6 years after its previous visit, and the competition was tight.  Results have now been posted on the CTT website and I have revised the results from my previous post.  Fortunately just the one change from sticking my neck out.

Womens Championship

As previously reported Christina M from the Scotland Group is still the Women’s 12 hour champion, but following thorough checking of the timekeepers timesheets it is now Christina Mackenzie from Christina Murray in a very close run result with Joanna Cebrat (Manchester & North West) in third.  Despite Murray being 1 year older than Mackenzie and receiving a greater vets handicap, Mackenzie travelled 1.9 miles further than Murray to swing the result by only 0.73 miles on Vets Handicap Distance.  This is a very close result as the distance between timekeepers was about 1.5 miles.

Team Group Championship

The two Christina’s from Scotland laid a strong foundation for Scotland to win the Team Group Competition, with Robbie Mitchell being the third counting rider from Scotland – he was 5^th in the Men’s Championship.  South Wales (Anthony Jones, Christopher Gibbard & Rob Powell) were beaten by about 6 miles, with Kent Group 3^rd (Martin Brown, David Greenwood and Alex Mayes) last counting group (i.e. 3 qualifying riders).

Mens Championship

The winner of the Mens’ event was local rider Anthony Jones from South Wales Group, who is currently leading the seasonal long VTTA 3-distance competition.

Tandem Championship

Mary Corbett and Norman Harvey, on their well-travelled tandem trike, won the VTTA Tandem Championship, being the sole tandem competitors, with Rachael & Ian still to debut at this distance.

Club Team Competition

There were no winners of the Club Team Competition as there were no qualifying teams unfortunately.

There was a wet start to the event, but the author was still dry in bed at that time, but it was a warm humid day later on with a slight bit of drizzles on the finishing circuit, near Raglan, Monmouthshire.  Whilst watching the riders circulate on the finishing circuit, the NEC championship Representative joined in the monthly NEC meeting on Zoom at 4pm – the wonders of modern technology and the ability to multi-task.

The CTT ran a live Google sheets results throughout the day, which made it far easier for me to derive the results for VTTA members, unlike 6 years ago on the same course.
